Barber & Osgerby

Internationally renowned designers Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby set up their studio in 1996 in London. In just a few years, it became highly sought-after by prestigious clients and brands. The spectrum of their work encompasses product design such as limited editions, furniture and lighting as well as public commissions, such as the 2012 Olympic Torch, and work for the British Royal Mint. Their creativity also extends to concepts for exhibitions and hotels.

Clients include leading international designer brands such as Knoll, Cappellini, B & B Italia and Flos (Italy), Sony, Swarovski and German designer label Vitra. Barber and Osgerby have expanded into further creative realms with exhibition spaces, shop design and hotel architecture. They first made their mark on the bathroom in collaboration with AXOR, the Hansgrohe Group designer brand, which led to the cross-collection AXOR One shower range in 2015.

Awards and international collections

 Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby have been awarded Designer of the Year many times by international media and specialist bodies (Elle Decoration, Wallpaper, Maison & Objekt, ICFF). Furthermore, creations from the duo can be found in prestigious collections, such as those at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the prominent Art Institute of Chicago. In 2007 and 2013, they were awarded the title of Royal Designers for Industry by the Royal Society of Arts. In 2013, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby were appointed Officers of the Order of the British Empire for services to the design industry.

Product design and architecture in London’s creative milieu

Edward Barber was born in 1969 in Shrewsbury and went on to study interior design, while Jay Osgerby was born in 1969 in Oxford and studied product design. The duo got to know each other while studying for a Master’s degree in architecture at the London Royal College of Art, and opened their first studio together in 1996. They also founded the Universal Design Studio for interior design in 2001, as well as MAP, a consultancy specialising in research and strategyled design. The Barber & Osgerby Studio is located in Shoreditch, London’s creative hot spot.
